Alstom has signed a contract with Taiwan Power Company (TPC) to upgrade
one of the two GT11N2 gas turbines to a GT11N2 M at the Tung Hsiao power
plant in Taiwan.

The GT11N2 M upgrade comprises the implementation of an improved turbine blading and combustion chamber.

To fulfil individual market requirements, Alstom's "M" technology upgrade allows customers to have a flexible operation mode and change between more power output and extended lifetime at any time, with the same hardware package. This flexible operation concept allows for longer service intervals and extended component lifetime, meaning less parts-replacement or reconditioning work, thus reducing the overall maintenance cost of the turbine.

Implementation of the new "M" upgrade package is scheduled for spring 2008 and will be completed during an extended hot gas path inspection.

Alstom has previously converted nine gas turbine units to dual fuel use at Tung Hsiao, including combustor upgrades to the environmentally friendly EV burner technology. The GT11N2 M upgrade implementation marks the next very important milestone towards TPC's strategy to operate their power plants cleaner and more efficiently. The new contract reflects the long-standing and close relationship between Alstom and TPC.

The 1,800 MW Tung Hsiao power plant is located on the west coast of Taiwan approximately two hours south of Taipei. Eleven Alstom gas turbines (3 x GT11D, 6 x GT11NM with 2 compressor upgrades [NMC], 2 x GT11N2) and 4 steam turbines power four of the plant's six combined cycle blocks. Commissioned in 1965,Tung Hsiao was the first gas turbine combined-cycle power plant built in Taiwan.
