Alstom is active in Bulgaria in the development of partnership with universities. Alstom, with SNCF, RATP and the French Embassy in Sweden, has initiated a program of fellowships. It will offer the opportunity for talented young students to spend a year within transport research groups at French universities and at industry sites to complement the training received from their home universities in Bulgaria. VTU, a renowned public institution of higher education, delivers university degrees in engineering as well as special qualification for the needs of transport and infrastructure. It takes part in developing and implementing the governmental policy in higher engineering education and in applied sciences in the field. VTU plays a key role to technically assist Bulgarian authorities in developing railway transport. VTU is also coordinating a Regional railway transport research and training centre foundation funded by the European Commission and implemented in partnership with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Kraljevo, Serbia and Montenegro .

The University organizes Transport, an annual International Scientific Conference. Alstom sponsored the 2006 edition.
