The SCMT equipment will be installed on 30 BB36000
asynchronous tri-current (25,000V/Hz, 1,500V continuous and
3,000V continuous) locomotives, equipped with bi-motor bogies. It
will be developed by the Alstom site at Bologna and installed by
the TLS Italy teams, in the workshops at Savigliano. Villeurbanne
will be the lead establishment for the coordination of this
Franco-Italian contract. Implementation of the project is scheduled to run over 24
months, of which 10 will be spent determining how to install this
standard system on the prototype locomotive. Three months will
then be necessary for SNCF to gain ratification from the French
(EPSF) and Italian (RFI) authorities. * SCMT is a speed control system that is fitted
to all engines operating in Italy. It will be mandatory from 1
July 2008, unless temporary dispensation is granted.
