Three years after its entry into commercial service, the
fleet of 46 trains manufactured on the basis of Alstom Transport
TGV-Reseau technology, has covered
59 million km, equivalent to going around the
world 1,472 times. The KTX operates the links between Seoul and
Busan and Seoul and Mokpo at 300km/h, covering distances of over
400km. Each day, KTX trains cover an average of
58,000 km. The number of passengers transported
daily is as many as
110,000, an increase of 55% compared to April
2004 (when the figure was approximately 71,000 passengers per
day). In Korea, the effects of the KTX translate through into a
significant reduction in air traffic, lighter traffic on the
highways and strong development in the economic and urban fabric
around stations where the high-speed train stops.
