Alstom Hydro to supply electromechanical equipment to power plants in Latin America

Alstom Hydro* has won two contracts worth more than 100 million euros
for the supply of hydropower equipment to power plants in Ecuador and
Venezuela.

The first contract, awarded to an Alstom-led consortium** by the Ecuadorian state-owned power supplier Hidropaute S.A., is for turnkey supply of electrical and hydro-mechanical equipment for the 162 MW new Mazar hydropower plant on Ecuadors Paute River. The contract is worth 60 million euros to the consortium, of which Alstom Hydros share is around 23 million euros.

Alstom Hydro is responsible for the supply, erection, supervision and commissioning of two 100 MVA generators, control monitoring and instrumentation systems as well as hydro-mechanical equipment. The first unit is foreseen to be in commercial operation by April 2009.

The second contract, valued at around 80 million euros was awarded by C.V.G. Electrificacion del Caroni C.A.(EDELCA), Venezuelas largest supplier of hydroelectric power, for the refurbishment of four generating units at its Guri I power house, located in the city of  Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela.

Alstom Hydros scope covers the complete refurbishment of 4 x 400 MW Francis turbines and generators and associated hydro-mechanical equipment.The first unit is scheduled for commercial operation in the first quarter of 2009.

With Brazil as our industrial hub, we have in recent years supplied everything from 5 MW units up to 700 MW machines. These latest orders confirm our strong presence in the market.
