Sustainable development

Designing urban transport systems that respect the environment is one of Alstom’s key commitments. Amongst others, this subject will be illustrated through three solutions allowing trams to operate “wire-free”: APS (the ground-level power supply system), the flywheel and the batteries system. These systems allow local authorities to redesign their towns and enhance their architecture heritage. The APS system is a unique technology that offers performance levels equal to those of a conventional tram. One of the advantages of the flywheel are the substantial energy savings generated. As far as the rechargeable batteries are concerned, this simple solution enables tram autonomy on small distances at a low cost. Designing trains highly recyclable will be another illustration of Alstom’s commitment to the sustainable development of cities and their regions. For example, the 49 CORADIATM LirexTM regional trains, recently ordered by the Skäne region in Sweden, will be up to more 98% recyclable.

Life on board

Urban transport is at the heart of people’s lives: making it a living space for all is essential. In addition to illustrating its will to improve accessibility aboard and in the trains, Alstom will present some results of its researches in the field of passengers’ comfort through the senses: visual, touch, auditory and olfactory. New materials, such as the lighting fabrics, that are being studied to be potentially applied in future urban transport systems, will be exhibited.

Technical expertise

Alstom will highlight its train control solution for metros and rapid transit, URBALISTM. This state-of-the-art system, already widely applied, in particular in its driverless option to the two metro lines of Singapore, allows train control via a unique radio-based communication system (CBTC). Metros run faster and closer together while keeping security at its optimum level and increasing energy saving.

Our experts will be glad to welcome you at Helsinki fair centre on our stand n°6D200 in hall 6 to present our latest innovations.
