Alstom has signed a contract with TransCanada Corporation and Halton Hills Power Partners to supply two heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) and one 300 MW steam turbine generator for the Halton Hills Generating Station, located near Toronto, Canada.

The new power plant will feature Alstoms triple-pressure reheat Optimised for Cycling and Constructability (OCC) HRSGs. This design delivers significant customer benefits, including improved performance and optimised fabrication and construction practices. The OCCs operational flexibility and daily cycling service means that plant owners can match the amount of electricity generated at different times of the day to actual demand. More than one hundred Alstom OCC HRSGs are in service worldwide.

Alstoms standard frame type steam turbine generator is particularly designed for combined cycle applications. In alignment with the output of the HRSG, the three-casing steam turbine is designed for optimised performance. It is connected to an air-cooled generator, providing significant advantages regarding reliability, operational flexibility and operational costs.

Halton Hills is Alstoms third order with TransCanada for combined cycle power plant equipment in three years.

The Halton Hills Generating Station will help supply Ontario's growing power needs with new, clean generation capacity. When it enters commercial operation in 2010, the low-emission, high efficiency combined cycle plant will have the capacity to generate enough power for approximately 600,000 area homes.

According to Robert Meier, head of Alstoms global HRSG business: This latest award underscores our strength in the North American market as well as our strong customer relationship. We look forward to providing highly reliable and highly efficient equipment on all three TransCanada projects.

TransCanada is a leading North American infrastructure company focused on natural gas transmission and power. Halton Hills Power Partners is a joint venture of Burns & McDonnell Canada Ltd. and Aker Kvaerner Songer Canada Ltd., who were awarded the Engineering, Procurement and Construction contract for the new plant.
