This train will operate on the high-density regional lines
of the Greater Stockholm region.

Our goal was to hand over before Christmas, and we did
it, says Klaus Dorfleitner, Project Quality Manager for
X40 and one of the Alstom representatives who have followed the
project since it started in Salzgitter in 2002.

The Swedish State operator has ordered 43 trainsets from in
2000 (16 two-car-units and 27 three-car-units). The first train
was handed over to SJ on 9 February, 2005.

The first trainset came to Sweden four years ago, in December
2003, as a development test train, and has since then
accumulated many kilometres in dynamic tests, winter tests in
Northern Sweden and all system tests with the equipment.

In 2005 the Test Train was taken back to Salzgitter in Germany
to be fitted with the interiors, modified and upgraded.

The X40 is the first double-decker in Sweden. A two-car-unit
seats 180 passengers, a three-car-unit 288. The X40 runs at
maximum speed 200 kph.

The train is equipped with air conditioning, passenger
information system, and all seats have headphones and
electricity available. There is a toilet for handicapped
passengers. The entries are on the same level as the platforms.
The doors are extra wide, 1,30 metres.
