The renewal of metro line 1

Equalling an amount of 68 millions Euro, this project falls
within the investment plan created by ATM (the Milanese
operator) for the strengthening and better safety of Metro line
1. The signalling system will be renewed in order to increase
the frequency of trains of 30% reducing the time of wait for
passengers.

Due to start by the end of 2006, Alstom will carry out the
work with no service interruptions. Thanks to a non-stop radio
transmission system, installed for the first time in Italy and
already tested by Alstom in other countries, the train will
constantly be connected with the central control place
(Automatic Control Center - ACC) and communicate his conditions
and position. This will permit to immediately intervene in case
of failure and to increase train frequency in safety.
