The quality of life on board is a priority for ALSTOM
Transport that continuously improves passenger comfort and
anticipates future trends, from suspension and air conditioning
to acoustic and light comfort. Furthermore, an effort was made as
to the comfort of interior fittings, space optimisation and
circulation fluidity. During the design phase, special attention
is paid to accessibility on trains, in particular for people with
reduced mobility. The multiplication of access points,
platform-level floors all along, elimination of gaps between the
platform and the train by means of sills and steps all facilitate
train boarding and movement both within and between cars. This design expertise includes sensorial design which
includes all senses using touch, colours, sounds, smell and light
to create a feeling of calm and well-being in travellers. One of the developments under way, presented during the
Design workshop, bore on the development of new lighting
solutions. In this respect, ALSTOM Transport is currently
studying the possibility of using optic fibre in the form of a
luminous fabric. This material could be used to show up certain
areas in the train such as ceilings, luggage compartments,
gangways. For more information,
