Since planning began for the metro in 1967, French companies,
and especially ALSTOM, have been key players in its development.
As such, ALSTOM has supplied the entire 751-strong fleet of cars,
as well as control systems, information systems, tracks and
maintenance.

Jacques Chirac was accompanied on his visit by Chilean
President, Michelle Bachelet; Sergio Espejo (Minister of
Transport); Elizabeth Beton Delègue (French ambassador to
Chile), as well as Patrick Kron.

Blas Tomic, chairman of Santiago Metro, stated that success
would not have been possible without the excellent collaboration
between the French and Chilean companies, notably in engineering,
financing and technology.
