ALSTOM's design for the new inner stator will improve the
performance of the generator, which was supplied by another
manufacturer, and increase the maximum rating to 520MW from
500MW. This, coupled with a recent refurbishment of a high
pressure turbine, will allow the power station to increase
power output to the UK National Grid.

The offer also includes ALSTOM's AMODIS® condition
monitoring equipment along with an initial period of eXpert
Service from the ALSTOM Generator Service Execution Centre at
Stafford.

Iain Lister, Director, Generator Service Technology, ALSTOM
Power Service in UK, commented: "This is yet another contract
which further strengthens our position as a credible
alternative to other OEMs on non-ALSTOM fleets. We are
delighted to continue our relationship with E.ON on this
significant project."

Simon Birchall, Electrical Plant Integrity Engineer at E.ON UK,
commented: "This gives us a good opportunity to utilise
ALSTOM's technology by retrofitting it to an existing 500MW
unit. The new design will allow the generator to be operated at
a load which takes advantage of the recent turbine
modifications which have been undertaken at Ratcliffe-on-Soar
Power Station."

Notes to Editor:

AMODIS® condition monitoring equipment can be used to
assess the condition of generators in service and to detect
defects in critical components before these degenerate to cause
major failure. To achieve this, measurements should be recorded
on a continuous basis and trends analysed with respect to the
operational history of the particular design of plant.

AMODIS® condition monitoring equipment provides a
standardised system of generator on-line measurement and risk
assessment as part of its total plant monitoring service.
Results are fed in real time to ALSTOM's Service Centre for
trending and analysis against fleet operating characteristics
and the resultant risk analysis fed back to the unit operator.

ALSTOM's eXpert Service solutions include remote monitoring and
continuous plant follow-up. ALSTOM provides the decision
support to help customers achieve the original design
performance of their plant with more operational flexibility
and a better control over business interruption risk.
