This order is an option included in a contract signed in
1994. In 1994, the same consortium won a contract for the
supply of 120 cars of the same type. The current METROPOLIS
cars were ordered to increase transport capacity of line C
connecting Jurubatuba in the south west of the Sao Paulo region
with Osasco, in preparation of the upcoming operation of metro
line 4 scheduled for the end of 2008. Thanks to the new rolling
stock, transport capacity will be increased from 90,000
passengers to 230,000 passengers a day.

ALSTOM's site in Lapa, Sao Paulo (Brazil) will provide the
traction equipment and be in charge of the manufacture of the
metro cars. Delivery will start mid-2007 and finish beginning
of 2008.

ALSTOM has been a supplier to CPTM for more than 10 years
and has so far delivered 30 trains for the East Express line, a
full turnkey system for line G (current metro line 5) including
48 METROPOLIS cars, the operation control centers for most
lines and the signaling systems for lines C,E and F. The
company is currently maintaining 78 suburban trains and
renovating 39 suburban trains.

With more than 35 product lines and a presence in more than
60 countries, ALSTOM's Transport sector offers complete
products and services for new rolling stock, signaling, and
electrical and mechanical infrastructure as well as maintenance
and rehabilitation services to four distinct types of
customers: urban transit authorities and operators; intercity
passenger rail operators and rolling stock owners; rail freight
operators; and intercity railway infrastructure owners.
ALSTOM's Transport sector, with sales of 5.1 billion euros in
financial year 2004-2005, is among the world's leading
suppliers to the railway industry.
