Originally commissioned by QNI and constructed by Babcock
Australia in the early 1980s the plant is fired by black coal
and heavy fuel oil. Refurbishment of Boiler No. 4, which has a
249 tonne per hour steam production generating a capacity of
50MW, is the first part of an ongoing program to upgrade the
entire plant.

QNI produces high quality nickel and cobalt products that are
used in the manufacture of stainless steel, speciality steels,
alloys, and chemicals.

Preliminary site works will commence in July 2005, with the
main shutdown occurring in September 2005. Final completion is
scheduled for January 2006. ALSTOM will undertake the works
programme, subcontracting the process design to its subsidiary
business, Sigma Energy Solutions, based in Brisbane.

ALSTOM and its sub-contractors will employ approximately 120
personnel to complete the entire project which will include
Electrical, Instrumentation and Control, Boiler Mechanical and
Burner Refurbishment.

ALSTOM is proud to have been selected based on our past
performance on similar projects, competitive price, in-house
total plant capability and for offering a complete package for
the refurbishment.
