We will also supply the power distribution along these lines. ALSTOM is part of the EPC consortium which was awarded an order for approximately 220 million euros to supply the turnkey tramway system for lines 2 and 3. ALSTOMs share of this amounts to some 45 million euros.

The Florence tram project is the first urban transport scheme to be implemented in Italy under a PPP framework, using the Merloni law promotore concept*.

On completion the project will comprise 3 lines covering more than 25 kilometres serving Florence and neighbouring municipalities. They will serve Florence airport, the Santa Maria Novella railway station and the university and hospital centres.

The first line is under construction and will open in 2008, lines 2 and 3 are due to open one year later.

Notes:
*PPP, Public-Private Partnership is a process by which elements of a service traditionally run by the public sector are provided by a partnership between the government and private enterprise (s). With the Merloni law promotore concept, a private enterprise, defined as the promoter, can submit a proposal to a local body which has put a list of works out to tender. If the proposal is accepted, it becomes of public interest and forms the basis of the tender.

RATP, the French state company which operates the Paris underground network, is a shareholder in Tram di Firenze SpA. RATP is also part of a joint venture with ATAF, the Florence city transport company, set up to operate the Florence tram network.

With more than 35 product lines and a presence in more than 60 countries, ALSTOM's Transport sector offers complete products and services for new rolling stock, signaling, and electrical and mechanical infrastructure as well as maintenance and rehabilitation services to four distinct types of customers: urban transit authorities and operators; intercity passenger rail operators and rolling stock owners; rail freight operators; and intercity railway infrastructure owners. ALSTOM's Transport sector, with sales of 5.1 billion euros in financial year 2004-2005, is among the world's leading suppliers to the railway industry.
