ALSTOM has been awarded by Energia SpA a contract worth around 350 million euros for the turnkey construction of, and maintenance services for, a 800MW gas-fired combined cycle power plant in southern Italy.
The contract covers the engineering, supply, erection and commissioning of the plant as well as long-term maintenance services for the gas turbines. The contract is expected to come into force within the next six months, when Energia has finalised project funding arrangements. The plant should come into commercial operation in 2008.
The plant technology is based on two GT26 gas turbines in a multishaft arrangement with heat recovery steam generators, steam turbine and electrical generators, jet condenser and a dry cooling tower.
Today, there are 76 units with this ALSTOM technology in commercial operation and the GT24/GT26 fleet has accumulated more than 1.5 million fired hours. Two projects containing a total of seven GT26 gas turbines are under construction in Spain and Thailand.
Philippe Joubert, President of ALSTOMs Power Turbo-Systems / Power Environment Sector, said: The contract with Energia is a big step forwards for ALSTOM in Italy and our first success in the country with our GT26 gas turbines. The contract follows our recent selection by RWE to provide the same technology in Germany. The outstanding performance of these turbines, coupled with our expertise as a plant integrator, is giving ALSTOM a distinct advantage in the gas-fired market.
