ALSTOM has won a turnkey contract for the design, supply and installation of a cogeneration steam power plant in Thailand for National Petrochemical Public Company Ltd (NPC).
The plant, in Rayong, Thailand, will provide steam to produce power for the local grid and nearby customers of NPC. The steam produced will also be used in NPCs petrochemical process plant.
The plant will be situated next to an existing plant which incorporates an ALSTOM-supplied Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG), commissioned in 2001.
The scope of work for ALSTOM, to be carried out by its Australian unit, consists of the supply and erection of an HRSG and balance of plant including unit step-up transformer, civil works, interconnecting piping and electrical work, and the erection of a NPC-supplied GE Frame 6 gas turbine generator.
Construction will begin in December 2005 and the plant is scheduled to come into operation in "open cycle" by June 2006 and full operation (combined cycle) by December 2006.
ALSTOMs EPC & turnkey plant capabilities, references in the region, local presence and sound technical product helped to successfully secure the order, said Tony Sheehan, ALSTOMs General Manager of Heat Recovery and Plants in Australia.
