ABELLIO orders CORADIA LINT regional trains from
ALSTOM

Today the transport operator Abellio and the railway system
manufacturer ALSTOM signed a contract worth approximately eight
million euros for the delivery of three regional trains of the
CORADIA LINT type. The contract also includes an option of 15
further vehicles of the same type. The diesel trains are
scheduled to start operation in December 2005. The two-car motor
units will be used in North Rhine-Westphalia on the 16 km long
Nokia-Bahn line between the German towns of
Gelsenkirchen, Wanne-Eickel and Bochum.
Being the successor company of EVAG-Betriebsgesellschaft mbH
(EVBG), ABELLIO GmbH is active on the market for public mass
transit since January 2004. The first big success ABELLIO had in
the new business of short-distance passenger traffic (SPNV) was
the award of the order of Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (VRR) for
the Emscher-Ruhrtal-Netz in November 2004. Besides
the No-kia - Bahn this network comprises the line
RB 40 Ruhr-Lenne-Bahn Essen - Hagen on which leased
electrical train sets will be operated. ABELLIO presently
participates in further SPNV competitions.
The special features of these CORADIA LINT trains for Abellio
are the high-quality and comfortable interior fittings as well as
the good environmental compatibility. Each two-car vehicle is
designed for a maximum of some 265 passengers. Sliding steps and
a low floor offer a comfortable access, in particular for
mobility-impaired passengers. Large panoramic windows, a video
surveillance system and an optimum sound-insulated interior
contribute to a relaxed and safe journey. The state-of-the-art
trains are equipped with environmentally friendly engines which
meet the Euro 3 standard. The innovative light-weight steel
design reduces the trains overall weight and thereby also
the fuel consumption. The new CORADIA LINT regional trains will
appear in the Abellio corporate colours silver and red.
Since the commissioning of the first vehicles in 2000, CORADIA
LINT has become established as one of the most popular regional
trains. Up to now ALSTOM has sold almost 300 CORADIA LINT motor
units all over Europe, 200 of them are in passenger service and
have run nearly 80 million kilometres.
