The inauguration ceremony, which took place at the Trambaix
depot, was attended by more than 800 guests. Among the ALSTOM
representatives attending were Charles Carlier, senior vice
president for Southern Europe, and Antonio Oporto, president of
ALSTOM Spain.

The new tramway, called Trambaix, links several municipalities
south of Barcelona with the city center, along a 12-kilometer
line with 25 stops. A second line, Trambesòs, will open in
the next few weeks to link the city center with the site of the
Universal Forum of Cultures.

ALSTOM is the technical leader of the construction consortium
for the new tramways and is the supplier of the rolling stock
– a total of 37 trams from its
CITADIS
family
– as well as much of the infrastructure
equipment. ALSTOM will also maintain the rolling stock and the
infrastructure for the Trambaix and Trambesòs tramways for a
25-year period.

With more than 35 product lines and a presence in more than
60 countries, ALSTOM's Transport sector offers complete
products and services for new rolling stock, signaling and
electrical and mecanical infrastructure as well as maintenance
and rehabilitation services to four distinct types of
customers: urban transit authorities and operators; intercity
passenger rail operators and rolling stock owners; rail freight
operators; and intercity railway infrastructure owners.
ALSTOM's Transport sector, with sales of 5.1 billion euros
in financial year 2002-2003, is among the world's leading
suppliers to the railway industry.
