The vehicles will operate on RandstadRail, a new light rail
link that connects the centers of The Hague, Zoetermeer and
Rotterdam. They will offer service between The Hague and
Zoetermeer, and are designed to run seamlessly on both the
mainline intercity tracks and the tram tracks of The Hague.

Each bidirectional, three-car vehicle will carry up to 220
passengers and is designed with a 75 percent low floor and low
boarding access.

They are similar to the 28 RegioCITADIS tram trains that
ALSTOM is to deliver to Kassel in Germany later this year. The
first vehicles for RandstadRail will be delivered at the
beginning of 2006, with commercial service scheduled to begin mid
2006.

ALSTOM will carry out the contract at its facilities in
Ridderkerk, the Netherlands, and Salzgitter, Germany.

Philippe Mellier, president of ALSTOM Transport, said:
“This is a major milestone in the commercialization of
RegioCITADIS, from our best-selling CITADIS range. In selecting
ALSTOM from strong international competition, our new customer
has recognized our widely-proven competence as a systems and
vehicle supplier, and we are committed to providing HTM with a
world-class product.”
