The contract includes options for maintenance, for the
purchase of up to 13 additional trams and for extending the
30-meter trams to 40 meters.

The CITADIS trams will run on the island’s first
tramway line, which serve the Santa Cruz de Tenerife-La Laguna
metropolitan area. Metropolitano de Tenerife, which was set up by
the Tenerife Island Council to develop rail transportation, is
building and will operate the line.

ALSTOM will build the trams at its Barcelona site, with the
bogies coming from Le Creusot in France and the ONIX traction
system from Ridderkerk in the Netherlands. Delivery of the trams
is scheduled to begin in January 2006 and be complete by
September 2006. Service is scheduled to begin in January
2007.

Victor Pérez, vice president of the Tenerife Island
Council and Metroplitano, said: 'We hope that passengers will
appreciate the vehicles that we have chosen – for their
safety as much as for their comfort and exterior design. All
these aspects, as well as price, were determining factors in the
choice of the model and the manufacturer.'

The CITADIS family of trams offers flexible, modular
solutions for rapidly growing cities. The CITADIS concept
combines standardization of components with customization of
interior and exterior design in order to meet the individual
requirements of each city in terms of aesthetics, comfort and
accessibility.

Thanks to the modularity of CITADIS trams, Metropolitano

its trams. This feature offers transport operators flexibility
and allows them to respond quickly to increases in passenger
