ALSTOM has signed a long term service agreement (LTSA), worth about 24 million euros, with Indian independent power producer, GVK Industries Ltd.

The agreement includes the supply of new and reconditioned turbine hot gas path components for a single GT13E2 gas turbine, in the yet to be built Jegurupadu II (GVK II) combined-cycle power plant. ALSTOM recently won the turnkey order to build the gas-fired 228MW plant, which will be located near the village of Jegurupadu in the State of Andra Pradesh in Eastern India.

The LTSA, which covers major inspections of the turbine, will help GVK ensure the efficient and economic operation and maintenance of the new plant. Construction of the plant commenced in mid-January 2004. The plant is scheduled to enter commercial operation in November 2005.

This project will alleviate the pressing need for increased generation capacity in this region.

Demand for electricity in India is expected to grow close to 10% per annum over thediv next years a rate second only to China.
