ALSTOM has been awarded a turnkey Engineer, Procure and Construct contract to provide a new steam generating boiler plant for chemical manufacturer INEOS Chlor. The new plant will form an integral part of a planned 565 million investment at the company's Runcorn site in Cheshire, which is the second largest chlorine production facility in Europe.

The project will be engineered and managed from the ALSTOM office in Cheshire. The boilers will be designed and manufactured at ALSTOM's manufacturing facility in Brno, Czech Republic.

Detailed engineering work for the design of boiler plant, steam and water production and distribution commenced in January 2004. This followed an initial engineering and optimisation study undertaken by ALSTOM in conjunction with INEOS Chlor. The new boiler plant is scheduled to be operational at the end of 2005.

The boiler plant will be an essential part of the INEOS Chlor programme to install new state-of-the-art chlorine cellrooms, modern control systems and upgrade its chlorine derivative plants at the Runcorn Site.
