The maintenance period is four years, beginning in July 2004,
and the contract includes an option for extending the term for an
additional three years. The contract covers a total of 113 cars,
which will be configured in 43 two- and three-car trainsets. SJ
will use the double-deckers, which are from ALSTOM’s
CORADIA family, for regional service initially, but the trains
may also be used for other types of service.

ALSTOM will perform comprehensive maintenance services in a
workshop supplied by SJ in Vasteras. The contract is
performance-based with set objectives for availability,
punctuality and productivity improvement.

Magnus Jonasson, SJ’s director of fleet management,
said: “In order to ensure the best possible travel
experience for our customers, we wanted to choose the best
possible solution for the servicing of our rolling stock.
ALSTOM’s technical expertise in maintenance met our needs
at an economical price.”

Andreas Knitter, chairman of the board of ALSTOM Transport's
business in Sweden, said: “We’re happy to provide our
customer, SJ, with a complete set of maintenance services that
will keep their trains in top running order and help reduce their
operational costs.”

Total TrainLife Management, ALSTOM’s unique approach to
servicing rolling stock, ensures that customers benefit from
improved performance, reduced operating costs, enhanced value and
increased comfort and security for passengers. ALSTOM's
comprehensive service offer includes maintenance, parts supply,
