Itapebi power plant in Brazil completed three months ahead of schedule

ALSTOM has delivered the Itapebi Power Plant, located on the Jequitinhonha River, in the southern region of Bahia, Brazil, three months ahead of schedule. This early delivery means that the project has been completed in a record 40 months.

Itapebi Geração de Energia (IGE) awarded the order, valued at over 180 million euro, to a consortium formed by ALSTOM and Construtora Norberto Odebrecht (CNO). ALSTOM's share of the contract is about 50 million euro.

ALSTOM's scope of supply included three 155 MW turbines, generators, hydromechanical equipment, substation, transmission lines, control systems, and electrical and mechanical auxiliary systems. The three 155 MW turbine/generator sets were manufactured at ALSTOM's Taubaté-SP plant. CNO, which led the consortium, managed the civil and assembly works.

This new plant will increase the output of the power park in Bahia by 1.7 TWh/year. The environmental impact of the plant will be limited due to the small size of the reservoir. At 465 MW, Itapebi is the largest power plant to be built in northeastern Brazil in the last 15 years and will generate enough power to serve 1.5 million homes.
