ALSTOM, in consortium with Marubeni Corporation (Japan), has been awarded a contract to supply and construct a 170 MW combined-cycle Add-On at the Phu My power plant in Vietnam. The power complex is located in the Baria Vung-Tau province of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, 100km north-east of Ho Chi Minh City.

This order, valued at around 40 million euro, was placed by Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), the National Utility. ALSTOM, as consortium leader, will supply the steam turbine, generator and auxiliary equipment and will also be responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction of the plant. The Add-On plant is scheduled for completion in November 2005.

ALSTOMs involvement with the complex began in 1996 with the turnkey supply of a 300 MW GT13E2 gas turbine based power plant (Phu My 2.1). In early 2001, ALSTOM was commissioned to transform the open cycle power plant into a combined-cycle plant (Phu My 2.1 Add-On). In June 2002, ALSTOM, once again in consortium with Marubeni Corporation and Lilama, was awarded the turnkey contract to build a new 450 MW combined-cycle power plant (Phu My 4).

The Phu My power complex will have an electricity output capacity of 3800 MW by the end of 2005, of which 1060 MW will be generated by ALSTOM equipment.
