ALSTOM has signed an exclusive, long-term, world-wide agreement with an
undisclosed, US Investor Owned Utility to license acoustic enhancement
technology for commercialisation and application on air pollution
control technologies used in power generation and other industrial
markets.

Under the license agreement, ALSTOM is primarily responsible for commercialisation of this technology but will work with Advanced Research Laboratories (ARL), an independent R&D facility owned by the University of Texas at Austin, to assist in product development.

ARL has specific expertise in the development and application of acoustic technologies for a wide variety of applications for both government and private industry and has already performed substantial research and development of acoustic enhancement technology for application on Air Pollution Control Systems.

The licensor has applied for patents covering the application of acoustic enhancement technology for use on air pollution control systems.  Acoustic enhancement technology offers the potential to cost-effectively enhance the performance of new and existing air pollution control devices that collect particulate matter.

A second application of this technology is to enhance the absorption of air pollutants within injected sorbents, including the injection of powdered activated carbon (PAC) to control mercury emissions.

Einar Saunes, Managing Director of ALSTOMs Environmental Control Systems comments: This technology offers significant potential to enhance the performance of a number of the products within our existing portfolio.

As a retrofit product, this technology has particular appeal because we anticipate it can enhance the performance of existing units and can potentially be retrofitted on existing equipment, without the need of a dedicated outage.  This technology fits nicely within our overall strategy to enable compliance with new regulatory standards for air pollutants, at a minimum impact to the generator.
