The project team verified the conformity of the gauge and
carried out track and catenary tests. Speed tests and tests on
subsystems such as road signaling and communications will be
carried out over the coming months.

In the depot, tests of the power-supply substation were
carried out successfully. The technical room of the control
center, the service station and the tram-washing machine have
been installed in the depot.

ALSTOM's customer, Tramvia Metropolità, was on site and
expressed their satisfaction at seeing significant progress in
the project. The commercial opening of the Trambaix network is
scheduled for early 2004.

ALSTOM is the technical leader of the construction consortium
building Barcelona's two new tramway networks, called Trambaix
and the Trambesòs. ALSTOM is supplying the rolling stock - a
total of 37 trams from its CITADIS family - as well as much of
the infrastructure equipment for both tramways.

ALSTOM will also maintain the Trambaix and Trambesòs
tramways for a 25-year period.

With more than 35 product lines and a presence in more than
60 countries, ALSTOM's Transport sector offers cutting-edge
products and services for new rolling stock, signaling and
electrical and mecanical infrastructure as well as maintenance
and rehabilitation services to four distinct types of
customers: urban transit authorities and operators; intercity
passenger rail operators and rolling stock owners; rail freight
operators; and intercity railway infrastructure owners.
ALSTOM's Transport sector, with sales of 5.1 billion in
financial year 2002-2003, is among the world's leading
suppliers to the railway industry.
