ALSTOM's plant in Salzgitter, Germany, will deliver the
two-unit DMUs from March to September 2005. DB Regio Lower Saxony
will operate the trains on the Harz-Weser network.

“With the procurement of series 648,” said Wolfram
von Fritsch, DB manager for the Lower Saxony/Bremen region,
“we keep our promise for transport services made in the
contract concluded with the Landesnahverkehrsgesellschaft in
spring 2003. From 2005, we offer the passengers of the Harz-Weser
network increased comfort and safety and thus take a further step
in modernizing our vehicle fleet.”
Landesnahverkehrsgesellschaft Niedersachsen is the transport
authority for Lower Saxony.

When the trains enter service in 2005, a total of 76 CORADIA
LINT trainsets built by ALSTOM will run on the railway networks
of Lower Saxony.

These modern, air-conditioned vehicles have 131 seats. The
interiors are designed for flexible use; for example, in
summertime, some of the seats in the spacious multipurpose areas
can be removed in order to provide additional space for
bicycles.

The trains offer passengers a high level of comfort and a
welcoming, safe environment. Low-floor entrance areas are
equipped with an automatic movable step that bridges the gap to
the platform as well as a manual ramp for wheelchairs, offering
easy access to all passengers, including those with impaired
mobility. The internal video monitoring system enhances
passengers' feeling of security in the trains.

The trainsets are equipped with environmentally friendly
engines by MTU that meet Euro III emissions standards.

“The success of the CORADIA LINT family is mainly due to
the short delivery periods and the high reliability during
operation, on average 98 percent,” said Dieter Klumpp,
managing director of ALSTOM Salzgitter, “as well as to the
design concept, which offers choice of various vehicle lengths
and individual interior layouts.”

CORADIA LINT has established itself as one of Europe's most
popular regional trains. Since the first vehicles were delivered
in 2000, ALSTOM has sold about 250 CORADIA LINT trainsets in
Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark to private and national
operators as well as to local transport authorities. More than
100 trainsets are in successful operation and have covered 40
million kilometers.

With more than 35 product lines and a presence in more than
60 countries, ALSTOM's Transport sector offers cutting-edge
products and services for new rolling stock, signaling and
electrical and mecanical infrastructure as well as maintenance
and rehabilitation services to four distinct types of
customers: urban transit authorities and operators; intercity
passenger rail operators and rolling stock owners; rail freight
operators; and intercity railway infrastructure owners.
ALSTOM's Transport sector, with sales of €5.1 billion in
financial year 2002-2003, is among the world's leading
suppliers to the railway industry.
