ALSTOM has been awarded a boiler conversion contract from
Kraftwerk Schkopau GbR, an associated company of E.ON
Kraftwerke GmbH, for the Schkopau power plant located near
Leipzig, Germany. The firing systems of the two brown coal
fired units A and B, with an output of 450 MW each, will be
adapted to decreasing calorific values of the local brown coal
from 11-12 MJ/kg to 9.5-10.5 MJ/kg.

The contract value is approximately 40 million euros. The
modernisation work for Unit B will start in 2004; work for Unit
A is expected to begin in 2005.

ALSTOM’s scope of work includes the modification of
burners with associated pressure parts, change of hot gas
recirculation ducts, upgrading the beater wheel mills and
reducing the economiser surface area.  The scope also
includes an addition to the existing furnace soot blower system
in the lower part of the furnace and adaptation of controls and
instrumentation of the affected areas.
