ALSTOM signs operation support and maintenance contract for Fortaleza Power Plant in Brazil

ALSTOM has been awarded an operation support and maintenance contract for the Fortaleza combined cycle power plant in Brazil. The contract, worth approximately 40 million euros, was placed by Central Geradora Termelétrica Fortaleza S.A, a special-purpose company established by Endesa Internacional S.A., an affiliate of the Endesa Group of Spain.
The scope of the contract includes all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of two GT11N2 power trains, including their gas turbines, generators, auxiliaries and control systems.
The award of this contract reflects Endesas continuing satisfaction with ALSTOMs operation and maintenance services at other sites in Spain and Argentina, and confidence that OEM support will best secure the safe operation, reliable service and high availability of the Fortaleza plant.
Still under construction, the 311MW Fortaleza plant is scheduled to enter into commercial operation in December 2003. Upon completion, it will be one of the largest thermal power plants in northeast Brazil. It will substantially contribute to improved availability of electricity in a region historically marked by a strong dependence on hydroelectric power and frequent periods of drought.
ALSTOM was awarded the contract to supply the two 115MW GT11N2 gas turbines and two air-cooled turbogenerators for the Fortaleza plant in October 2001.
