The Intercity Neigezüge SBB consortium, comprised of
Bombardier and ALSTOM, has begun delivering the second series of
ICN intercity tilting trains to Swiss Federal Railways (SBB).
With the complete delivery of the second series, SBB will have a
total of 44 ICN trains in revenue service by the end of 2004.

ALSTOM's facilities in Neuhausen, Switzerland, are supplying
the tilting technology and bogies from its TILTRONIX range for
the trains, which can reach a speed of 200 kph.

The ICN tilting trains allow SBB to realize the ambitious
timetables of the operator's Rail 2000 project, which would not
be possible with conventional trains.

ALSTOM's TILTRONIX technology allows trains to take curves at
speeds up to 30 percent faster than traditional trains by
'leaning' into them. TILTRONIX-equipped trains can thus shave up
to 20 percent off travel times possible with conventional trains
while maintaining a high level of comfort for passengers.

The use of tilting trains also allows operators to optimize
their existing main line services without major infrastructure
investment.

ALSTOM's own best-selling PENDOLINO tilting trains, which also
rely on TILTRONIX technology, operate in nine European countries
— the UK, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Finland,
Switzerland, Germany and Slovenia — and will enter service
soon in the Czech Republic and Austria.

With more than 35 product lines and a presence in more than
60 countries, ALSTOM's Transport sector offers cutting-edge
products and services for new rolling stock, signaling and
electrical and mecanical infrastructure as well as maintenance
and rehabilitation services to four distinct types of
customers: urban transit authorities and operators; intercity
passenger rail operators and rolling stock owners; rail freight
operators; and intercity railway infrastructure owners.
ALSTOM's Transport sector, with sales of €5.1 billion in
financial year 2002-2003, is among the world's leading
suppliers to the railway industry.
