ALSTOM has won a 143 million (GBP 101 million)
contract to build 4 x 7 car trainsets and 59 trailer cars from
Tube Lines, the company responsible for maintaining and
upgrading the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly Lines under the
PPP (Public Private Partnership) contract with London
Underground.

Destined for the Jubilee Line, the new trainsets will
increase capacity by lengthening the existing trains allowing
an additional 180 passengers to board each train. The new
seven-car service will be up-and-running by early 2006. The new
trains will be identical to those already in operation.

ALSTOM supplied the original fleet of 59 x 6 Jubilee Line
trains in 1996 and  maintains the current Jubilee Line
fleet at Stratford Market depot, helping Tube Lines to meet its
targets for  reliability, availability and ambience.
ALSTOM also maintains the rolling stock on the Northern Line
under the Northern Line Service Provision agreement.

This work will be carried out at ALSTOMs sites in the
UK and mainland Europe.

Commenting on the order, Paul Barron, Vice President of
ALSTOM Transport UK, said:  ALSTOM is obviously
delighted to win this order and maintain our longstanding
relationship with Londons Tube network. Were
confident that the new vehicles will improve the travelling
experience for passengers on the Jubilee Line.
