Philippe Mellier's appointment

Philippe Mellier has joined ALSTOM as President of the
Transport Sector on 1 May 2003.

Philippe Mellier, 47 years old, was Chairman and CEO of
Renault Véhicules Industriels since 2000 and member of the
Volvo Group Executive Committee. From 1999 to 2000, he was
Senior Vice President Europe at Renault S.A. Prior to that, he
had a long career at Ford Motor Company, including senior
management responsibilities in several countries.

Philippe Mellier reports to Patrick Kron, Chairman and Chief
Executive Officer of ALSTOM.
