ALSTOM has been awarded a contract for a GT10B industrial gas turbine for mechanical drive application. The order was placed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) of Yokohama, Japan, acting as EPC contractor on behalf of the end customer, Sonatrach, the Algerian state-owned Oil & Gas company.

The GT10B turbine, with a capacity of 34,100 shp (shaft horse power), will be used for gas compression, driving a Mitsubishi compressor at the AEGR (Algerian Edjeleh Gas Recovery) station in the Edjeleh gas field in eastern Algeria, 70 kilometres south-east of In Amenas and some 2000 kilometres south of the capital, Algiers.

The order is not only a breakthrough in the co-operation between ALSTOM and MHI, but also for the GT10B in the Algerian market.

The GT10B will be manufactured at ALSTOM's industrial turbine facility in Finspong, Sweden, whence it is due for delivery in the spring of 2004.

The GT10B is a modern, well-proven machine offering a balance of high efficiency, robustness and reliability in both power generation and mechanical drive. This combination leads to excellent life-cycle costs for the customer. During the last fiscal year, ALSTOM has received over 55 orders for the GT10B in mechanical drive applications.
