SITRAM, the transport authority of the metropolitan area of
the French city of Mulhouse, has chosen ALSTOM to supply 20
CITADIS tramways worth about 48 million. This contract
includes an option for an additional seven tramways, which will
bring the total contract amount to 64 million if
exercised.

Those CITADIS tramways, which have a full low floor and are
2.65 meters wide, can carry 230 passengers.

The tramways will run on the urban TramTrain network
currently under construction. This network, with a total length
of 19.7 kilometres, comprises two urban tramway lines
interconnecting in central Mulhouse. The urban network will be
complemented by a 37-kilometre extra-urban line that will use
existing track and connect Mulhouse with the Thur Valley.

ALSTOM will build the tramways at its site in Aytré,
near La Rochelle. Delivery should begin in the first quarter of
2005, and commercial service is scheduled to start on 12
kilometres of the network in the fall of 2005.

'I am very happy that SITRAM has placed its confidence in
ALSTOM for the first phase of this urban-transport project,
which allows us to establish a collaborative relationship that
we hope will be long and productive,' said Didier Genty, the
Vice-President of ALSTOM's Transport sector in France.

The CITADIS family of tramways offers flexible, modular

the world. Among others, Paris, Barcelona, Rotterdam, Dublin
and Melbourne have chosen CITADIS. Among the 440 CITADIS
