ALSTOMs site in Preston has won an order from HSBC
Rail for the complete overhaul of more than 300 static
converters. This equipment is fitted to the fleet of Mark IV
passenger coaches, which are hauled by Class 91 locomotives.
The fleet is operated by Great North Eastern Railway on the
East Coast Main Line between London and Edinburgh.

The purpose of renovation is to improve the safety,
reliability and availability of the Mark IV fleet.  The
first set of 11 overhauled converters is due for delivery to
the customer in November 2003, with final completion of set 31
in September 2005.
