ALSTOM wins contract to supply steam turbine retrofit for Sweden

ALSTOM has been awarded a contract by Forsmark Kraftgrupp AB, Sweden, to retrofit Units 1 & 2 at Forsmark Nuclear Power Station with 12 low pressure steam turbine cylinders.

The contract secures at least 30 years of further operation for Forsmark Kraftgrupp AB,supporting their ongoing P40+ investment programme. The upgrade will also provide additional electrical generating capacity in excess of 100 MWe, a significant support to the Swedish energy market.

This low pressure turbine retrofit solution is based on state-of-the-art technology, with the significant increase in power being generated through improved steam path efficiency. This contract will secure increased reliability and reduced maintenance / inspection intervals for the remaining operational life of Units 1 and 2 at Forsmark Nuclear Power Station, which were originally installed by ALSTOM in 1980. Delivery of the first unit is scheduled for the end of April 2005 for installation in July 2005.

This contract contributed to an outstanding December for ALSTOM's Steam Turbine Retrofit Business in the nuclear steam turbine market, which also included an order from Pacific Gas and Electric to retrofit their two steam turbine units at Diablo Canyon Power Station, USA.
