Passengers traveling from Manchester to London boarded a new
Virgin Trains PENDOLINO making its first passenger run from
Manchester to London.

Also aboard was Sir Richard Branson, chairman of the Virgin
group. I am very proud to be riding with the first
customers and staff today, he said.

The train, named City of Manchester, left
Piccadilly station in Manchester at 6:58 A.M. for Euston
station in London, stopping at Stockport and Wilmslow. The new
tilting train is one of 53 PENDOLINOs being built by ALSTOM at
its Washwood Heath plant in Birmingham for Virgins new
West Coast Main Line fleet.
