The contract was signed with Alstom Ireland Ltd., the
companys local entity, created especially for the contract
as proof of ALSTOMs firm, long-term commitment to serving
this customer fully. The proximity to the customer will help in
building a close working relationship with the operating staff
and in recruiting local maintenance help (see notes below).

In exercising the rolling stock maintenance option, RPA
confirmed its confidence in ALSTOM, citing the companys
superior product knowledge, competitive price and extensive
service experience.

RPA have indicated that the preferred supplier for the
operating franchise is Connex. Commercial service will begin in
December 2003.

A maintenance contract for tramway infrastructure remains to
be awarded and ALSTOM, with its decades of experience around the
world in this field, will be offering its services.

Editors notes

  • To date over 350 CITADIS have been ordered
worldwide. The trams are already in operation in Montpellier,
Orleans, Lyons and Melbourne, are currently being delivered to
Dublin and are in production for Bordeaux, Rotterdam, Paris,
    Valenciennes, and Barcelona.
  • ALSTOM has operated in Ireland for many years and has
recently established a subsidiary in Dublin ALSTOM
Ireland Ltd. This was an important decision, improving as it
does our local strength and support for our customers both
during project execution and subsequently during operation. It
ensures speed of response in problem resolution, minimizes
communication interfaces and links Ireland directly with ALSTOM
    operations throughout the world.
