The refurbishment of the 2600 Series cars will extend the
operating life of the rolling stock to thirty years. The cars
were fitted with an upgraded propulsion system, IGBT based
auxiliary inverters, increased capacity air comfort system,
upgraded door controls, full width cab configuration and an
advanced microprocessor based cab signal system. The interior
refurbishment work included the installation of new and
overhauled seats and new main lights for improved lighting.
ALSTOM also added vandal shield to the windows, and installed
silicone cleat blocks, which will reduce the long term wear on
the high voltage cabling under the car.

Frank Kruesi, President of CTA, said: 'Last November we
reached a new record for reliability in our rail operations. As
our railcars undergo rehabilitation and return to service, the
miles between reported defects increases resulting in better
service for our customers.'

The work was carried out at ALSTOMs plant in Hornell,
New York. Over 3000 transit cars from various authorities have
been overhauled at this location, and ALSTOM will refurbish 108
additional cars for CTA as per the third option awarded in June
2001.

With more than 35 product lines and a presence in over 60
countries, ALSTOM Transport offers cutting-edge products and
services to four distinct types of customers: urban transit
authorities and operators; intercity passenger rail operators and
rolling stock owners; rail freight operators; and intercity
railway infrastructure owners. ALSTOM Transport, with 4.4 billion
euros in sales in 2001, is one of the world's three leading
suppliers in the railway supply industry.
