ALSTOM presents CITYWAY TM tram for Messina at EUROPOLIS
exhibition in Bologna, Italy

EUROPOLIS, the sixth International Exhibition took for its
theme Technology for a Livable City in this
years venue in Bologna, Italy, the 7-10 February 2002.
Within EUROPOLIS, the Traffic and Circulation part is the most
specialized exhibition for the transport sector.

The inauguration ceremony was held in front of the ALSTOM
stand with the Mayor of Messina, Mr. Salvatore Leonardi, and the
Senior Vice President of ALSTOM Transport Italy, Mr. Emilio
Gallocchio.

The focus of the 470m² ALSTOM stand was the new low-floor
CITYWAY tram built by ALSTOM Ferroviaria for the City of Messina,
Sicily. The stand was designed to represent the Sicilian City.
Along with the CITYWAY, ALSTOM presented a series of its other
offers for urban and regional transport: the METROPOLIS
Singapore, the METROPOLIS Warsaw and the CORADIA Duplex built for
the French National Railways (SNCF). Great interest was also
shown in the Tie Integrated Switch Machine (In Sleeper Switch
Machine) developed by the Information Solutions unit of Bologna
for railroad and transit application.

During a two-day forum held concurrently with the exhibition,
Mr. Emilio Gallocchio spoke before 200 representatives of Urban
Transport Authorities. The speech highlighted ALSTOM
Transports capabilities in Italy using as examples the
CITYWAY product family and the AXONIS driverless metro
system.

The success of this four-day event confirms ALSTOM as one of
the most important suppliers to the Italian urban transportation
market. Already some 100 CITYWAY trams are being delivered to the
municipalities of Rome, Turin and Messina.
