ALSTOM will supply two CFB boilers and a 520 MW steam
turbine generator set.

ALSTOM has won a major order to supply Reliant Energy
Seward, LLC, an unregulated unit of Reliant Energy's Wholesale
Group with a 520 MW coal-fired power plant to be built at
Seward in Indiana County, Pennsylvania (US). The total order is
valued at approximately 600 million euros (US$550 million), of
which ALSTOM's share is around 260 million euros (US$235
million).

Commercial operation of the new plant is scheduled to begin
in May 2004 and will more than double Seward's current
generating capacity. The existing plant will be retired in
October 2003.

ALSTOM will supply a single 520 MW steam turbine generator
set served by two advanced Circulating Fluidised Bed (CFB)
boilers and an emissions control system which includes a
selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR) system to reduce NOx
emissions and flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) to reduce SO2
emissions.

ALSTOM's CFB technology uses advanced in-furnace combustion
control techniques to reduce emissions significantly. When
combined with ALSTOM's high-performance SNCR and FGD
technologies as well as particulate control, it enables
otherwise waste coals to be used for power generation with
exceptionally low emissions levels, able to satisfy the most
demanding environmental requirements anywhere in the world
today. The use of this technology will thus allow large piles
of existing and otherwise waste coal in the area to be cleared
in the most environmentally sensitive way.

'This latest order underlines ALSTOM's world leading
position as a supplier of CFB and emissions control
technology', commented Michael Barrett, Managing Director of
ALSTOM Power's Boilers & Environment Segment. 'It also
reflects the renewed interest in coal fired power plants we are
seeing in the US market. Seward will be a showpiece for modern
clean coal technologies.' ALSTOM recently completed
construction of a similar CFB plant in Maryland and is
currently building other units in Mississippi and in Guayama,
Puerto Rico, which will be among the largest to be placed in
operation in North America.

Extensive Research and Development currently underway to
reduce emissions levels even further will ensure ALSTOM's world
leading position in power generation for the future.
