GT13E2 technology will raise power generation capacity in
Qatar for summer 2002

ALSTOM has been awarded a turnkey contract to increase the
electrical power output of the existing Ras Abu Fontas B power
and desalination plant in Qatar, which is owned by Qatar
Electricity and Water Company (QEWC)* .

The order, worth over 170 million euros, includes the
turnkey supply of three 165 MW GT13E2 gas turbines, the balance
of plant and control systems. This order represents the first
IPP project in the country and was placed by QEWC. The GT13E2
units will start operation in simple-cycle mode in spring of
2002. This extension of the plant will help to meet the growing
demand for electrical power in Qatar.

The three gas turbines will provide Ras Abu Fontas B with an
additional power output of 400 MW at site conditions and will
bring the total number of GT13E2 gas turbines up to eight.
ALSTOM supplied the first five GT13E2 units in 1995. The
turbines have accumulated over 145,000 of operating hours.

When operational, the Ras Abu Fontas B plant will be the
largest power and desalination plant in Qatar and one of the
largest in this region.

The GT13E2 fleet, which comprises 66 units worldwide,
represents proven technology with over 1,000,000 fired hours on
gas or oil and an established fleet reliability of over
99%.

* This order was included in ALSTOM's nine-month orders and
sales ended 31 December 2000.
