ALSTOM wins order worth over 440 million euros to extend
Shoaiba power plant in Saudi Arabia

ALSTOM has been awarded a contract by the Saudi Electricity
Company worth over 440 million euros to extend the Shoaiba
oil-fired power plant in Saudi Arabia.

ALSTOM was awarded the turnkey contract to construct units
1-3 of the plant, situated 120 km south of Jeddah on the Red
Sea, in October 1998. The Phase 2 contract for Units 4 and 5
will be a continuation of Phase 1.

ALSTOM Power will supply 2 x 390 MW Steam Turbine Generator
sets, the boilers, the overall electrical and control system
and balance of plant ; a large part of the infrastructure,
civil engineering and auxiliary systems having been supplied
under Phase 1. In addition, as consortium leader, ALSTOM Power
will be responsible for the project management, engineering,
procurement, construction and commissioning of the plant.

Phase 1 is currently under construction and the first unit
is scheduled to begin operation in July 2001. Engineering and
construction of the second Phase is due to begin immediately,
with expected commercial operation for Unit 4 in mid -2003 and
Unit 5 at the end of 2003.

This latest success underlines ALSTOM's world leading
position in turnkey power plant construction and expertise in
the management of complex infrastructure projects.
