ALSTOM has just been awarded a contract valued at 300
million euros for the supply of double-deck regional trains for
Sweden's national railway company (SJ AB).

ALSTOM will deliver a total of 113 cars from its CORADIA
DUPLEX range, to be composed into 43 trainsets of 2 to 3
cars, according to service needs. The electrical multiple
trainsets, developed by ALSTOM, operate at up to 200km/hour.
Fast, comfortable and safe, the new trains will provide
passengers with excellent travelling conditions. The trains'
flexibility and the modularity of interior fittings was a
decisive factor in the customer's choice. The contract includes
an option for additional trains.

The contract comes within the framework of a programme for
the renewal of rolling stock for the interregional lines around
Lake Mälaren, west of Stockholm, the most densely
populated region in Sweden.

Deliveries are scheduled from end June 2003 through November
2004.

Michel Moreau said: 'We are very pleased with the decision
taken by SJ AB, manifesting their confidence in our rolling
stock. This contract is the first order for double-deck rail
cars on the Swedish market and follows the successful delivery,
to another Swedish customer, of trains and equipment for the
Arlanda - Stockholm airport link. The CORADIA DUPLEX
range offers a solution ideally suited for high-capacity
passenger transport in an inter-urban environment.'

ALSTOM is the global specialist in energy and transport
infrastructure. The company serves the energy market through
its activities in the fields of power generation, power

generation activities, ALSTOM today has annual sales in excess
of 20 billion euros and employs approximately 140,000 people in
over 70 countries.
