Bangkok Metro Company Limited (BMCL) has just selected a
consortium led by ALSTOM to become a partner in the 25-year
concession for the Blue Line of the Bangkok Metro and to
provide the electrical and mechanical equipment (E&M) and
associated maintenance services for ten years. The overall
value of the project to the Nippon-Euro Subway Consortium,
including maintenance, amounts to approximately 450 million
euros, of which the ALSTOM portion amounts to around 50%.

The line will run from Hua Lamphong to Bangsue, a distance
of 20km.

ALSTOM is the leader of the Consortium and will undertake
the overall technical management of the E&M supply, the
systems integration, and the provision of 21x3 car MetropolisTM
trains sets, the signalling system, the communication systems
and equipment for the workshop/depot. In addition, there is an
option for 4 further train sets.

The other members of the Consortium are Mitsubishi Electric
(Melco) and Mitsubishi Corporation of Japan, who will provide
the traction equipment, power supply system, automatic fare
collection system and the platform screen doors.

Michel Moreau, President of ALSTOM's Transport Sector, said
today: 'We are delighted to have secured this contract after
such a long period of concentrated effort. It will further
cement ALSTOM's position as the primary metro system provider
for Asian cities following, as it does, recent successes in
China and Singapore. Having already taken, in the Spring of
this year, contracts worth more than 100 million euros for
trackwork and tunnel ventilation equipment for the Blue Line,
ALSTOM has clearly secured its long term presence in
Thailand.'
