Alstom Chattanooga Inaugurates its First Solar Power Array

Alstoms Chattanooga-based boiler retrofit business today hosted over 100 guests including politicians, industry partners, investors, community allies, local businesses, and several members of the media to celebrate the inauguration of the facilitys first solar array project. The event reinforced the importance of solar installation grants and demonstrated that clean energy is achievable through strong corporate leadership and local partnerships.

Alstom is committed to clean energy solutions and responsible, sustainable business practices, said Alstoms Tim Curran, President of Alstom Power U.S., the solar array is one example of our growing commitment and I want to thank the partners and employees who made this project possible.

The event marked the installation of the 56.16 kilowatt solar array that consists of a canopy structure containing 234 solar panels suspended above Alstoms parking lot. As a recipient of LEED Gold Certification and a 2011 Sustainable Industry Excellence Award, Alstom was able to secure over $600,000USD of funding and support, including long term energy credits from the Tennessee Valley Authority and grant programs from the Tennessee Solar Institute, the Electric Power Board and Chattanooga Greenspaces.

Alstoms Tim Curran was joined by a panel of speakers including Anj McClain of Chattanooga Greenspaces, David Wade of the Electric Power Board, and Jean Peretz the Director of Operations, for Tennessee Solar Institute whose remarks kicked off the celebration. All spoke highly of the partnerships that made the project a reality. Peretz expressed that, "The Tennessee Solar Institute is proud of its partnership with Alstom Power's Chattanooga facility to bring more clean, renewable, solar energy to the state and utilizing Tennessee's skilled workforce to install 56 kilowatts of solar energy."

Reflecting on the local efforts to promote clean energy, Anj McLain, Director, Chattanooga Greenspaces added, Since opening our doors in 2008, we set out to change building practices. Today best practices have become standard practices.
