With a national spotlight shining on proposals to build new high-speed rail corridors throughout the United States, Alstom has teamed-up with several leading global companies to pursue a project that would connect the Florida cities of Orlando, Tampa and Miami with trains running at speeds up to 168 miles-per-hour.
The partnership, which was formally announced on November 16, 2010, includes:
- Alstom Transport - with more than 30 years of high-speed rail experience, Alstom Transport delivers complete transport systems including rolling stock, signaling, infrastructure systems and ongoing maintenance. Alstom's TGV high-speed rolling stock system has been used in Europe for more than 30 years and the company has sold more than 670 high-speed trains worldwide. In 2007, Alstom equipment set the world high-speed rail record of 357 miles-per-hour.
- VINCI -a global leader in concessions and construction whose subsidiary, VINCI Concessions, is a leading private operator of transportation concessions including motorways, tunnels, bridges, car parks, airports and rail links.
- OHL - an international construction, concessions, environment and industrial group with almost 100 years of experience and a presence in 20 countries across four continents. In addition to being one of the Florida Department of Transportation's largest contracting firms, OHL is a global leader in high-speed rail construction and has been since the launch of Spain's first high-speed project in 1992.
- Virgin Trains - an international investment group founded by Sir Richard Branson, Virgin is one of the world's most recognized and respected brands. Its subsidiary, Virgin Trains, is Britain's fastest-growing railway company whose high-speed trains link the cities of London, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham and Glasgow at speeds up to 125 miles-per-hour.
Through the partnership, Virgin, VINCI and OHL will operate the full turnkey system of state-of-the-art Very High Speed trains that will be built and maintained by Alstom.
