Deutsche Bahn orders 39 Coradia Lirex regional trains from
Alstom

The first is for 12 Coradia Lirex trainsets which will
operate on the Munich-Passau line and will enter service at the
end of 2009. The second involves the supply of 27 Coradia Lirex
trainsets for the region of Wurzburg (Bavaria), eight of which
will be put into service at the end of 2009 and the remaining
19 at the end of 2010. All the trains will be manufactured at
Alstoms factory at Salzgitter, in Germany.

Coradia Lirex trains, which can operate at speeds of up to 160
kph, are characterised by their high degree of modularity. The
length of the coaches, number of doors and the interior design
can be adapted to the needs of operators and passengers. The
arrangement of the multi-activity areas can be varied to suit
the season, for example giving passengers more space in summer
to stow their bicycles. A lowered floor and gangways between
the coaches facilitate access onto and movement on board the
train, particularly for people with reduced mobility.

95% recyclable, Coradia Lirex trains exemplify the
environmental approach applied by Alstom. This achievement
results

from taking into account, right from the project design phase,
parameters which make it possible to control the trains

impact on the environment throughout their lifecycle, from
manufacturing to recycling. In addition, the energy management

system with which they are equipped reduces the consumption of
the traction and auxiliary systems.

Since the launch of the first regional trains from the Coradia
Lirex range in 2002, Alstom has sold almost 200 trainsets in
Germany and Sweden. In Germany, DB Regio AG has ordered 76
Coradia Lirex trainsets.
